A shipment of 10,000 doses of Sinovac vaccines arrived June 5 at the Bacolod-Silay Airport and was brought immediately to the cold room facility of the city at the Emergency Operations Center office.
The vaccines were received at the cold room facility by City Health officer-in-charge, Dr. Edwin Miraflor, CHO nurse Paulynne Sustento, who is also the cold chain manager, and CHO nurse Maricar Mana-ay.
EOC executive director Em Ang said the supply is only good for 5,000 persons and will be administered to Bacolodnons in priority groups, either as first dose or second dose.
The vaccines will be used starting June 7 during the vaccination rollout in two malls and in some subdivisions.
Ang said there are more senior citizens and persons with comorbidities, who need to be vaccinated against the coronavirus disease 2019.
She said it was Mayor Evelio Leonardia who requested the national government to allocate more vaccines for Bacolod, and cited the urgent need to inoculate more residents amid the continues spike in local cases.
As of June 4, the Emergency Operations Center and the COVID-19 Vaccination Council have administered 37,150 doses of COVID-19 vaccines, 15,432 were of the Sinovac brand and 21,718 made by AstraZeneca. — MML
