Senate President Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri led the inauguration and blessing of a two-storey dormitory, worth P14,850,000, inside the Carlos Hilado Memorial State University (CHMSU) Binalbagan campus April 15.

This legacy project of Zubiri was lobbied by Negros Occidental 5th District Rep. Dino Yulo, covers 460 square meters per floor, and houses two rooms for persons with disabilities, four PWD toilets, eight regular bedrooms, two common toilets each with three cubicles, two shower rooms with four cubicles each, two kitchens/pantries, and two rooms for dorm-in-charge.

In his speech during the ceremony held at the campus covered court, Zubiri highlighted the importance of providing support to students along with quality education, adding his office prioritizes projects that directly benefit students and higher state colleges and universities.

The project began construction on April 17, 2023, and was completed Nov. 11 that same year. The beds and additional amenities are yet to be procured by the university, its press release said April 17.

Zubiri lauded Yulo for leading legislations that benefit state universities and students in his district.

He also acknowledged the strong support of local officials, including Binalbagan Mayor Alejandro Mirasol and Himamaylan City Mayor Rogelio Raymund Tongson.

Zubiri was accompanied by administrator Pablo Luis Azcona of the Sugar Regulatory Administration.

CHMSU president Norberto Mangulabnan, in his message, said the university is in great debt to Zubiri and Yulo for the new dormitory, adding this facility will help students who need in-campus lodgings the most.

Yulo said that when he proposed the project to Zubiri, the senator was delighted to hear about it as his office has been doing similar projects in several state universities and colleges in Bukidnon.

Zubiri grew up in Bukidnon and has roots in Kabankalan City.

Aside from the new dormitory in the CHMSU Binalbagan Campus, Yulo has also lobbied for a similar building for the Moises Padilla Campus of the Central Philippines State University, Zubiri added.

The senator was also surprised by the CHMSU community with cakes, flowers, and a birthday song. Zubiri turned 55 on April 13.

The inauguration and turnover ceremony was preceded by a mass at the Binalbagan campus covered court. ||
