Woman, 2 minors drown in Cauayan

An elderly woman and two minors drowned while swimming along the coastal area of Barangay Inayawan, Cauayan, Negros Occidental on Saturday (Oct. 11).

Initial police investigation showed a strong current swept the youngsters and the 64-year old woman attempted to rescue them, but she drowned with them in the process.

The minors were the woman’s five-year-old grandson and the 15-year-old daughter of a family friend.

Personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard, Bureau of Fire and Protection, and Philippine National Police responded to the call for assistance.

The victims were brought to the Cauayan District Hospital, where they were declared dead on arrival.

Meanwhile, a 39-year-old man was found dead at Sitio Labamba in Barangay Orong, Kabankalan City on Oct. 12.

The victim, who was found lying on the ground, succumbed to head injuries.

Investigators aired the suspicion that he may have hit a hard object when he tripped. | GB
