The Gospel according to John tells us the exact day that the events of Palm Sunday occurred. John 12:1 says, “Therefore, six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany.” Six days before Passover is Nisan 9.
Then John 12:12–13 says, “On the next day… they took the branches of the palm trees and went out to meet Him.” This would be Nisan 10.
According to Torah, what occurs on Nisan 10? Exodus 12:3 says, “On the tenth of this month they are, each one, to take a lamb for themselves.”
Yes, on the same day that the Passover lamb entered the Israelite houses, Jesus the Passover Lamb entered Jerusalem. This was not coincidence. This was divine timing.
First, understand that Jesus is the Passover Lamb.
1 Corinthians 5:7 says, “For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.”
During the Passover, lambs are brought to Jerusalem, examined for defects, and then sacrificed. When Jesus entered Jerusalem during Passover week, He was publicly presented. He was examined by Pilate and by Herod, and both declared Him innocent.
The priests knew He was innocent but sought out false testimony against Him. Then He was sacrificed during Passover.
In Exodus, the blood of the lamb saved the people from death. In the New Testament, the blood of Christ saves us from sin and eternal death.
Salvation is not through religion, good works, or tradition. Salvation is through the blood of the Lamb.
Second, answer the question: “Who is this?”
Matthew 21:10 says, “When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, ‘Who is this?’”
When Jesus entered riding on a donkey and the people shouted “Hosanna,” the entire city was stirred. The question of the city was not “What is happening?” but “Who is this?” This is the most important question in history.
Some said He was a prophet, a teacher, or a miracle worker. But the Bible declares He is the King, the Lamb, the Son of God, and the Savior.
The Triumphal Entry forces everyone to answer this question: Who is Jesus to you? Christianity does not begin with church attendance. It begins with answering who Jesus is in your life.
Jesus entered Jerusalem on Nisan 10, the very day the Passover lamb was chosen. He came not merely to fulfill prophecy, but to fulfill salvation. He is the Lamb who was examined, sacrificed, and raised again.
Now, He asks each of us the same question the city asked: Who is He to you? May your answer be, “He is my Lord and my Savior.” | NWI
