What is heaven like?

One of the questions that we ask is that what happens after we die in this earth. The Bible is very clear that there are only two eternal destinations – it is either we go to heaven or to hell. There is no in between.

All of us want to go heaven, and not to hell. So, as we look forward in going to heaven, let us reflect on some Bible verses about heaven.

First, heaven is full of joy.

Revelation 21:4 tells us about this, “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”

Our life in this world is full of suffering. Reading the Bible that heaven is without suffering should encourage us to look forward to that kind of life for eternity.

Heaven is full of joy because there are lots of singing and praising.

John in Revelation 5:11-12 describes the situation in heaven: Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. In a loud voice they were singing: “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!”

Practice singing praises to God now because that is what we will do for eternity.

Second, heaven is a reunion of believers.

In Matthew 8:11, Jesus said, “I say to you that many will come from the east and the west, and will take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.” This verse tells us that we will recognize the characters in the Bible, and also our loved ones who has accepted Jesus Christ in their lives.

So, if we want to enter heaven, what should we do?

In Matthew 4:17 we can see that Jesus in His preaching tells the people to “Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

For those who have repented and accepted the gift of salvation, Jesus has a special place. In John 14:2, Jesus made this promise, “My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?”

Let us look forward to seeing our loved ones again in heaven, and sing praises to God for eternity. – NWI
