‘War materials’ found in abandoned rebel camp

Patrolling troops of the Philippine Army’s 79th Infantry Battalion (IB) discovered weapons and other items in an abandoned lair of the New People’s Army in the hinterlands of Cadiz City, Negros Occidental.

1Lt. Dan Carlo Somoza, civil-military operations officer of 79IB, said on Wednesday, July 17, that the discovery of the hideout also led to the recovery of a magazine of M16 rifle containing 30 ammunition along with two back packs, two cellular phones and  accessories, two hammocks, a flashlight with charger, assorted medical paraphernalia, personal belongings and subversive documents.

Somoza said the focus military operation is ongoing to track down the rebel remnants in northern Negros. | GB
