The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will resume voter registration on Nov. 10 in preparation for the 2028 national and local elections.
Comelec-Negros Island Region Director Lionel Marco Castillano said Thursday, Oct. 29 that the registration period will run until July 30, 2027, allowing eligible Filipinos to register as voters, reactivate or transfer their registration, and correct or update information in their voter records.
He said Comelec offices are ready to accommodate applicants as the agency shifts to a four-day workweek, with office hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday.
Castillano also raised the possibility of including Saturdays in the registration schedule, noting also that many people have been visiting Comelec offices to inquire about transferring their registration and correcting entries in their records.
After the registration period ends, the scheduled approval of the Election Registration Board proceedings will follow in August.
Castillano said the Comelec is planning to set the filing of certificates of candidacy for the 2028 elections as early as September to give the commission sufficient time to resolve disqualification cases, including those involving nuisance candidates.
He said the Comelec en banc would need time to deliberate on and issue decisions on these cases. | GPB
