A total of 1,164 indigent families from Barangay VI-A in Victorias City, Negros Occidental, each received 10 kilograms of rice during the ceremonial distribution of the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF) rice allocation, under the “Bawat Bayan Makikinabang” program at the barangay covered court July 31.
The distribution marked the start of the citywide implementation of the LGSF rice allocation, which aims to provide food assistance to 8,928 qualified families across Victorias, the city said Aug. 1.
The ceremonial turnover was led by Mayor Abelardo Bantug III, Negros Occidental 3rd District Rep. Javier Miguel Benitez, and assistant secretary Rea Uy-Epistola of the Office of the Executive Secretary.
In his message, Bantug thanked the national government and partner-agencies for their continued support, and reaffirmed the city’s commitment to strengthening food security and assisting vulnerable families.
Benitez, meanwhile, highlighted ongoing efforts to ensure that national government assistance reaches communities across the 3rd District, while Uy-Epistola reaffirmed the national government’s support for local government initiatives that directly benefit families.
Punong barangay Anna Mae Claro also expressed her gratitude to the city and national officials for bringing the rice assistance program to Barangay VI-A.
Following the ceremonial program, organizers proceeded with the distribution of rice to qualified beneficiaries in attendance, as part of the city’s continuing efforts to provide food assistance to indigent households.
The distribution was also attended by Board Member Richard Julius Sablan, city administrator Atty. Meddie Arbolado Jr., city agriculturist Samson Garzon Jr., and City Social Welfare and Development officer Joy Reunir, along with councilors Deilen Hofileña, Jappy Cuaycong, Vincent Marie Roa, Juvy Pepello, and Trisha Mae Majan, together with city department heads and employees, barangay officials, representatives from the Department of Agriculture Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division–Negros Island Region, and the Newton-Camingawan-Para Farmers Agricultural Cooperative. ||
