The city government officially reopened the newly renovated Victorias City Public Library following a blessing ceremony Aug. 6.
The modernization project was completed through the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) 2024 Incentive Fund that upgraded the library’s physical facilities, learning materials, and equipment to provide more efficient and accessible services.
The improved facility aims to strengthen the library’s role as a center for education, research, and lifelong learning for Victoriasanons, particularly students, educators, researchers, and other library users.
The blessing was led by Rev. Fr. Ramon Jimenea Jr., the city said.
Vice Mayor Derek Palanca, representing Mayor Abelardo Bantug III, welcomed the guests and emphasized that investing in libraries reflects the local government’s commitment to education and the development of future generations.
In his inspirational message, Negros Occidental 3rd District Rep. Javier Miguel Benitez underscored the importance of prioritizing education, noting that libraries continue to serve as places of hope and learning amid today’s educational challenges.
OIC city librarian Mary Ann Lazo expressed her gratitude to the city government and partner-agencies for supporting the modernization project, and highlighted the transformation of the former aging facility into a modern and more conducive learning environment.
The ceremony also featured the signing of the Certificate of Turnover and Acceptance by Palanca and Department of the Interior and Local Government Negros Island Region Cluster 2 head and Local Government Operations officer VII Maria Nove Mejica on behalf of provincial director Teodora Sumagaysay.
The reopening of the public library reinforces the city’s continuing investment in accessible, inclusive, and quality education by providing Victoriasanons with a modern space for reading, learning, and research. ||
