The local government of Victorias, through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), distributed educational assistance to 260 students with disabilities at the Victorias City Coliseum Nov. 12.
Spearheaded by CSWD officer Joy Reynir, RSW, the initiative offered financial aid of P500 per month, and each beneficiary received a total of P2,500, covering the August to December assistance, to help support their educational needs.
Representing Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez, City Culture and Ethics officer and chief of staff to the mayor, Dr. Joselito Diaz, attended the event.
Designated PDAO focal person Arvie Brillantes, PWD focal person Jasteen Cauntod, and representatives from the City Treasurer’s Office and the Persons With Disability Affairs Office (PDAO) also attend the event.
This program underscores the LGU’s commitment to ensuring that students with special needs receive essential resources to support their educational journey, the city said in a press release Nov. 14.
Meanwhile, the LGU will launch the citywide “Orange Your Icon Movement” on Nov. 25, in support of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW).
All city officials and employees, barangay officials, personnel of national agencies, and high school students are encouraged to wear orange to show solidarity with the campaign and to promote a strong message of zero tolerance for VAW, the city.
The LGU encourages that all its offices, landmarks, and iconic spots be decorated with orange hues, and for anti-VAW advocacy materials to be distributed during the campaign period, from Nov. 25 to Dec. 12. ||
