The Victorias local government will break ground today on its flagship Sidlak Victorias Global City project.

“As we celebrate and look back at our humble beginnings, this 119th Malihaw Festival, we also welcome the dawn of a legacy that is about to unfold,” the city said in a statement April 23 as it invited everyone to “be a part of history as we break ground on exciting developments that will soon rise in Victorias City”.

The Sidlak Victorias Global City will rise in Barangay XIII.

Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez, in his first six-month report as local chief executive of Victorias, had said the Sidlak Victorias Global City would be a place “where we can live, work, and play with perfect balance that cares for our environment and is open to progress”.

Meanwhile, the 119th Malihaw Festival of Victorias this weekend will feature an array of activities for residents and visitors alike.

Today’s activities include a mangrove planting, 7 a.m., at the Mangrove Eco-Trail in Barangay VI-A; and the Victorias City Arm Wars: Invitational Arm Wrestling Tournament, 1 p.m. at the public plaza skating rink, with competitors from all weight classes – featherweight, lightweight, middleweight, and open weight – to go head-to-head in a gripping battle for dominance.

The 119th Malihaw Festival Fluvial Parade will start 3 p.m. in Barangay IX, in honor of the Our Lady of Victory and St. Casimiro.

“The solemn boat procession will mark the beginning of our annual patronal festivities,” the city said, adding that the Top 3 Best Decorated Boats will be awarded.

The thanksgiving mass at 6 p.m. will be at the Victorias public plaza, the city added. ||
