The Victorias City government said Sept. 15 it has extended assistance to affected residents in Gawahon, Barangay XI, following an armed encounter between the 79th Infantry “Masaligan” Battalion and members of the communist terrorist group (CTG) Sunday.
The 79th IB said an encounter transpired between government troopers and about five CTG members believed to be remnants of NNF-D in Sitio Paraiso, Brgy. XI (Gawahon) Sept. 14, who were reportedly conducting extortion and atrocities in the area.
Right after the emergency coordination meeting Monday, city employees, under the directive of Mayor Abelardo Bantug III, immediately mobilized and visited the affected community.

The relief operation was jointly led by the City Mayor’s Office, City Social Welfare and Development Office, and the Regional Mobile Force Battalion-Negros Island Region.
As part of the continuing assistance, the City Engineering Office and the General Services Office will conduct assessments in the coming days to determine the extent of damage to houses and other properties affected due to the clash, the city said.
“This proactive action highlights the city’s commitment to promptly respond to crises and ensure that the needs of its people are addressed without delay,” it added. “The local government reassures its constituents of its readiness to extend immediate interventions in times of emergency, underscoring its dedication to safeguard the welfare of Victoriasanons.”
Close coordination, meanwhile, is ongoing among the Philippine Army, Philippine National Police, and other law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety and security of the community.
“The public is advised to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities by immediately reporting any unusual or suspicious activities in their areas,” the city said. ||
