Victorias City pushes for financial literacy

Victorias is the first component city in the province of Negros Occidental to collaborate with the Securities and Exchange Commission in the implementation of the SEC Communication, Advocacy, and Network (SEC-CAN!) project June 7.

Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez signed the memorandum of agreement on the partnership with SEC Bacolod Extension Office director II, Atty. Annabelle Corral-Respall, at the Victorias City Hall.

“We aim that every Victoriasanon will gain knowledge on effective management of money and debt, through carefully designed financial literacy programs and investment scam awareness and activities,” Benitez said in his message.

The mayor said he believes that this partnership is a step towards a more progressive and sustainable economy.

Corral-Respall expressed her support to the city’s thrust for a sustainable economy and mentioned some of the programs of SEC that are aligned with this advocacy.

With SEC-CAN!, the local government unit can now equip Victoriasanons with the knowledge and skills to understand financial principles and practices, investing, financial literacy, and investor protection, and to avoid falling victim to investment scams and other fraudulent schemes.

The ceremonial MOA signing was witnessed by City Administrator Atty. Lindolf De Castro and SEC Bacolod information officer II Maria Laarni King, the city said in a press release, adding that councilors Warlito Undar, Hermie Millan, and Eric Alcobilla, department heads and city employees also attended the event. ||
