The University of St. La Salle (USLS) is set to inaugurate the Center for Aerogel Technology for Energy and Environment (CATEE), with funding from the DOST-Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (PCIEERD), on Nov. 21.

USLS and DOST boast that CATEE will be the first research center in Negros Occidental, dedicated to the development of advanced materials.

The inauguration will be attended by Dr. Enrico Paringit, executive director of DOST-PCIEERD; USLS administrators led by university president Br. Joaquin Severino Martinez and chancellor Minnie Chua, together with Lasallian partners.

The laboratory is envisioned to focus on the synthesis and development of functionalized aerogels for various applications, including environmental remediation, resource recovery, and energy storage devices, the USLS said in a press release.

It also aims to significantly boost research and development activities in the region.

The social impact of CATEE lies in its potential to utilize aerogel and nanomaterials promoting sustainability, improving the quality of life, and driving technological advancement across various industrial sectors, the university added. ||
