Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and Sagaynon Sonia Marañon Sarrosa were honored by the University of St. La Salle (USLS) Bacolod for their “exemplary contributions to the Lasallian mission and service to the community.”

Lacson received the Signum Lasallianum Award, one of the highest institutional honors conferred by the USLS, for his “sustained commitment to education, youth and sports development, skills training, and the promotion of good governance in Negros Occidental”.

Sarrosa, meanwhile, received the Fides Award for her life of faith expressed through humble service, including her support for churches and social ministries, advocacy for the care of creation, strengthening of family life, scholarship assistance to students in need, and partnership with the De La Salle Brothers in Lasallian initiatives.

Lacson said the Lasallian mission of faith, service, and communion reminds him that public service is not just a responsibility but a calling, one rooted in fairness, accountability, and integrity.

“This award is not mine alone; it belongs to my family, my colleagues in government, and the people of Negros Occidental, who continue to believe in honest and compassionate leadership,” he said in a Capitol press release Jan. 24.

Sagay Mayor Leo Rafael Cueva, meanwhile, congratulated Sarrosa, saying her award “reflects the values of faith, service, and integrity that Sagaynons are known for.”

Her achievement is a source of pride for the city, he stressed in a city press release, adding the recognition highlights the meaningful contributions of Sagaynons in faith-based service and community development beyond the city.

Sarrosa is the youngest sibling of former provincial governors Alfredo Jr. and Joseph Marañon.

Cueva said he hopes that her example will continue to inspire service rooted in faith, compassion, and commitment to the common good. ||
