Typhoon damage to livestock reaches P742M

The Negros Occidental Provincial Veterinary Office reported P742,391,003.50 worth of livestock damage due to Typhoon Odette.

Provincial Veterinarian, Dr. Renante Decena, submitted his final livestock damage report to the Office of the Governor, after an assessment from 262 affected barangays in 29 local government units.

He said that P426,682,503.50, or 57.50 percent, covered losses due to mortalities of livestock and poultry, and P315,708,500, or 42.50 percent, from the destruction of animal housing and facilities.

Odette also ruined P192 million in broilers, equivalent to 1,292,582 heads, P70 million in swine, and more than P61 million each in layers and game fowl.

Commercial farms incurred P207 million in damages, and P58 million for LGU-owned facilities.

Decena said 2,625 backyard raisers of different livestock and 132 commercial raisers were affected, mostly in the 4th, 5th, and 6th districts of Negros Occidental. –MML
