Two suspected New People’s Army rebels died in renewed armed clashes with Philippine Army soldiers in Sitio Pisok, Barangay Buenavista, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental yesterday.

Lt. Col. J Jay Javines, public affairs chief of 3rd Infantry Division, said that the two slain rebels, a male and a female, were among the remnants of the dismantled NPA Central Negros 2.

Javines said that 94th Infantry Battalion soldiers responded to reports from civilians on the presence of about five armed rebels, which led to a firefight for almost five minutes.

The cadavers of the two NPA rebels were left behind by their comrades.

Soldiers recovered two high-powered firearms, including M14 and M16 assault rifles, with magazines containing ammunition, and personal belongings placed in a back pack.

No one was hurt among the 94IB soldiers, who are still in pursuit of the fleeing rebels, according to Javines. | GB
