Two proposed ordinances of come-backing Councilor Em Legaspi Ang were approved on third and final reading by the Sangguniang Panlungsod during its 7th regular session this afternoon, Aug. 17.

The first one was the ordinance giving a P1,000 one-time fuel subsidy to more than 5,500 drivers/operators of tricycles for hire with valid franchise issued by the Bacolod City government.

Ang and co-proponent councilors Cindy Rojas, Renecito Novero, Israel Salanga, Lady Gles Pallen, and Ayesha Villaflor noted that the national government, through the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, has been giving fuel subsidy to jeepney drivers, but the tricycle drivers, who are also utilizing fuel in their livelihood were taken for granted.

The Sangguniang Panlungsod passed an ordinance giving a P1,000 one-time fuel subsidy to more than 5,500 drivers/operators of tricycles for hire with valid franchise issued by the Bacolod City government.

“It is imperative for the City Government of Bacolod to also provide fuel subsidy to the more than 5,500 members of the Bacolod City Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association as a measure of relief amid the unprecedented increase of gasoline price in the country,” the ordinance, that was supported by all SP members, stressed.

There is a net increase of P17.45 per liter of gasoline, since the start of 2022 until Aug. 16, as per the Department of Energy Oil Monitor.

The SP also approved on third and final reading Ang’s measure to assign permanent guards in all public parks in Bacolod.

Currently, there are no guards assigned to any of the public parks in the City and these may be subject to vandalism, property damage, or any equivalent acts from lawless elements, hence the need for guards, she said./CGC
