Tricycle drivers in five towns and cities of Negros Occidental 3rd district are set to receive P5,000 fuel subsidy.

In a statement, Rep. Javier Miguel Benitez said the distribution, in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development-Negros Island Region, will be held simultaneously in the towns of E.B. Magalona and Murcia as well as the cities of Victorias, Silay, and Talisay, on April 8.

The initiative aims to help public transportation cope with the rising fuel prices.

Benitez advised tricycle drivers to coordinate with their respective  association presidents to ensure inclusion of their names in the master list, which will be subjected to validation by the respective  city and municipal social welfare and development offices before the distribution date.

The lawmaker also assured farmers and fisherfolk in his district that they will not be left behind, stressing that coordination to secure resources from the national government is underway.

Meanwhile, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board-Negros Island Region (LTFRB-NIR) will conduct an investigation on the complaints that some  public utility vehicle drivers in Bacolod City were left out of the transport sector’s cash relief assistance program.

Rudy Catedral, president of the Bacolod Alliance for Commuters, Operators and Drivers, reported that only 240 out of the 380 of their listed driver-members were approved to receive the financial aid.

While the agency will look claims of Catedral, Llena maintained that the LTFRB’s database is 95 percent accurate and that the review will help clarify any discrepancies in the selection process. | GB
