Carlos Hilado Memorial State University (CHMSU) concluded its 3rd University Foundation Week with a tree-planting activity at the 8.7-hectare Bacolod Eco Park in Brgy. Felisa May 17.

Representing the university, administrators, students, faculty, and staff planted about 270 native fruit-bearing tree seedlings in the newly opened eco-park.

Also participating were members of the Faculty Association and officers from the Alijis and Fortune Towne campuses, headed by association president, Engr. Manuel Uy.

Students from the National Service Training Program (NSTP) of both campuses actively joined the activity under the guidance of director Esther Leah Macatimpag and NSTP coordinators.

Teams from the Office for Student Affairs, Office of Guidance Services, Library and Information Services, and the Talisay-Alijis-Bacolod-Binalbagan Employees Association (TABBEA) also took part in the early morning tree-planting activity.

“This celebration was a testament to our collective dedication, innovation, and commitment to sustainability and community building,” director Rhoderick Samonte of the Center for Internationalization and External Relations, who also served as convenor of the 3rd University Foundation Week, said in a press release May 19.

Samonte spearheaded the coordination of the tree-planting initiative with the Bacolod Environment and Natural Resources Office head Ma. Fe Trespuentes. He also represents CHMSU on the Bacolod City Climate and Environment Council.

“Let us continue to be catalysts for change and stewards of sustainability, bringing us closer to our vision of becoming a leading Green university in the global community by 2030,” Samonte urged. ||
