Orange Project at the Art District Mandalagan in Bacolod City will host “Transference”, the largest solo exhibition to date by renowned Bacolod artist, Roedil “Joe” Geraldo, with the opening ceremony on Jan. 18.

Known for his prolific output across a wide range of forms—including drawings, paintings, terracotta sculptures, wood carvings, and murals—Geraldo has spent over two decades creating deeply personal and evocative works of art.

“Transference”, which will run until March 6, is not only a testament to Geraldo’s unrelenting pursuit of translating and articulating the complex, uncomfortable, and sometimes precarious currents that shape both his life and his art. It is also, unmistakably, a celebration of the energy, optimism, grit, perseverance, power, and passion that have become signature elements of his lifelong artistic practice, a press release from Orange Gallery said Jan. 9.

“His approach to art is raw and unfiltered. He creates from his mind, heart, and soul, capturing stories, symbols, and emotions drawn from his inner world. His creative process is driven by an almost reckless flow of ideas and images that he surrenders to without hesitation, allowing them to overwhelm him with speed and intensity.

“The result is a body of work that feels visceral and compelling—a vivid collision of ironies and contradictions that speaks with sharp, bold visuality and a sense of urgency,” it added.

A multi-awarded artist, Geraldo’s most recent exhibitions and artistic endeavors, both within and beyond the region, included Tropical Halo-Halo, an artist residency and exhibition project in Leipzig, Germany (2023); Set Zero: Khon Kaen International Contemporary Art Project at Khon Kaen University in Thailand; the Candon Mural Art Festival in Candon, Ilocos Sur; and Immersive Art: Of Echoes & Currents, a performance-based art presentation at Greensun Hotel, Makati City (2024).

Recently, he founded Geraldo Art Space in Talisay City. The vibrant venue reflects his commitment to not only showcase his own work but also to foster a broader artistic dialogue within his community.

It serves as a welcoming space for artists from diverse backgrounds, creating an environment where creativity and collaboration can flourish. Geraldo Art Space functions as a platform for emerging artists, particularly younger generations, encouraging them to pursue their art with passion while understanding the importance of giving back to the community. | Poster design by Reyanna Lizares
