The sixth edition of  advocacy ride Tour of the Fireflies, originally set on Nov. 29, has been moved to Dec. 6.

Himamaylan City, headed by Mayor Raymund  Tongson, will host the event for the second consecutive year.

This year’s event, which is part of the 16th Provincial Environment Month Festival, is themed “Ride for Frontliners” to pay tribute to all frontliners in the battle against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

Himamaylan’s hosting was  confirmed by Tongson in an Oct. 26 letter to Provincial Environment Management  Office head Danilo Amisola.

“The LGU of Himamaylan hereby formally accepts and commits to spearhead the localized celebration…We have already commenced coordinating with the member of the organizing team of the provincial Tour of the Fireflies for the preparation of the upcoming activity, with the strict observance of health protocols as the primary matter to be considered,” Tongson told Amisola.

He thanked the PEMO head for giving the city government the opportunity to host the event again.

Last year,  almost  4,000 bikers  traversed the 78-kilometer route from Bacolod to Himamaylan during the fifth Tour of the Fireflies held Nov. 24.
