A powerful tornado swept through Barangay Blumentritt, Murcia, Negros Occidental Thursday afternoon (March 6), causing significant power disruptions in the area.
At about 2 p.m., strong winds resulted in outages along the Bacolod-Alijis 69 kV sub-transmission line of Negros Electric and Power Corp. (Negros Power), affecting electricity supply to the Alijis and Murcia substations as well as their respective feeders.
There have been no reports of major structural damage to Negros Power’s facilities.

However, initial assessments indicated that fallen tree branches and debris have been entangled in power lines, necessitating immediate clearing and repair operations.
Negros Power’s technical teams have been deployed to conduct thorough inspections, remove obstructions, and restore power as quickly and safely as possible.
Engr. Mervin Dalian, assistant vice president of the Network Development and Operations Group, assured the public that their teams are working diligently to address the situation.
Dalian said the tornado did not cause any major damage.
Negros Power urged the public to remain cautious and report any downed power lines or electrical hazards in their areas.
The power company also advised affected residents to stay updated through official announcements as restoration efforts continue. ||
