Bagonhons may avail of the full scholarship for training program being offered by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, in partnership with MBA Forest Technical School Inc., based in Barangay Ma-ao, Bago City.
Officials of MBA Forest Technical School Inc., led by its president, Recelyn Dormido, presented the program to Bago Mayor Mayette Javellana-Yao during their courtesy call at her office July 15.
Its trainer and liaison officer, Jovanie Gino, said the program is from the office of Negros Occidental 3rd District Rep. Javier Miguel Benitez and will be implemented through Tesda under its Special Training for Employment (STEP) Program.
Some 150 slots will be given to qualified applicants for Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) NC II.
Six batches of beneficiaries, with 25 trainees per batch, will undergo 34 days of SMAW training and three days of entrepreneurship training, the city said in a press release.
Gino said that Tesda has already issued a notice to proceed for SMAW NC II, thus, they can already start the training for the first two batches as soon as available slots are filled in.
For qualifications, applicants must be a resident of Bago, at least 18 years old and above, and had completed training in SMAW NC I, or a SMAW NC I holder.
They need to submit a photocopy of a PSA birth certificate, photocopy of marriage certificate for married female applicants, and valid identification card with signature.
Twenty-five slots are also available for Produce Organic Concoctions and Extracts with 13 training days.
Applicants must also be a resident of Bago, and at least 18 years old and above. They also need to submit a photocopy of their PSA birth certificate, photocopy of marriage certificate for married female applicants, and valid ID with signature.
Another 25 slots will be offered for the Plant Crops program. The training is also 13 days, and the qualifications and requirements are the same with that of the Produce Organic Concoctions and Extracts.
Applicants can submit their requirements either to The Showroom located at the Bantayan Park in Barangay Poblacion through Engr. Dar Licañel, or at MBA Forest Technical School Inc., through Jovanie Gino and Edgie Tirol.
“This is an institution-based program thus, the training will be conducted at the school in Ma-ao,” Gino said, adding that scholars will also avail of benefits, like free training, free assessment fee, P160 daily allowance or training support fund, and starting tool kits.
Priority recipients will be those under the informal sector and low poverty level, including indigenous people and the unemployed, he also said.
Javellana-Yao thanked the congressman and Tesda director Francisco “Kiko” Benitez for choosing Bago as the program beneficiary.
The mayor urged Bagonhons to avail of the scholarships, as she expressed optimism that it will spur employment opportunities for the locals. ||
