The Provincial Peer Educators Learning Summit 2022 was held at Nature’s Village Resort in Talisay City, Negros Occidental recently, led by the Population and Development Division of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, in collaboration with the Department of Education.
The summit was held in support of the adolescent health and development program of the Department of Health, and to encourage youth involvement in public and civic affairs.
Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, who led the awarding of the Provincial Outstanding Peer Educators of the year during the summit, said that peer educators encourage positive and proactive participation and involvement among peers, thus, they need to be protected and empowered to reach their utmost potential.
“On the part of the provincial government, we will endeavor to create an enabling environment for positive youth engagement and empowerment in order to help shape the future,” Lacson said in a Capitol press release.
He also attended the 42nd Provincial Cooperative Day celebration, hosted by San Carlos City, Saturday.
Lacson said he always believed in the value of people’s inclusion and empowerment, which will strengthen the government and ensure further economic and social progress.
“We, as a united province, must resolve to strengthen cooperatives, to enable them to provide quality financial and related services that will strengthen the capacities of our people, especially as we seek to recover from the ill effects of the pandemic and move forward as a nation,” he said.
Held at the city auditorium, the event was also attended by Board Member Rommel Debulgado, provincial cooperative coordinator, Dr. Edmund Chris Acosido, the Negros Occidental Provincial Cooperative Council, San Carlos City Cooperatives Development Council, San Carlos City Government Employees Multi-Purpose Cooperative, and representatives from the Cooperative Development Authority, among others.
The event was part of this year’s Provincial Cooperative Month observance, on the theme, “Negros Cooperatives: Models of Resiliency and Excellence in the Midst of Economic Turbulence”. ||
