The Bacolod City government is preparing to light up the public plaza on Dec. 10, to be led by Mayor Alfredo Benitez, even as the lights-on ceremony and Festival of Lights at the Bacolod Government Center will be held Dec. 7.

With the theme “Paskwa sa Plaza”, the city aims to bring back the joy and festivity of the Christmas season, with the “Adopt a Tree” program to highlight volunteerism in Bacolod.

“We want to share the spirit of Christmas as meaningful to everyone, and through this initiative, we’re creating a space for families to celebrate,” chief tourism officer Ma. Teresa Manalili, chairperson of the “Adopt a Tree” program, said in a press release.

The plaza has around 100 trees, and the committee expects most of them to be illuminated, the Bacolod Tourism Office said.

“This initiative is led by our local government, and supported by the community, including barangays, local businesses, and institutions; hotels, schools, pasalubong centers, hospitality accommodations, and brewery companies, travel and tours, families and individuals have already pledged their support to the program,” it added. ||
