The Sagay City Police Station has filed rape with homicide charges against a 40-year-old man, who was tagged as the suspect in the killing of his 14-year-old stepdaughter on Jan. 1 in Barangay Rizal.

Maj. Albert Sy, Sagay police officer-in-charge, said that the complaints against the respondent identified as Elias Granciso was filed yesterday before the Sagay City Prosecutor’s Office.

Sy said that Granciso was arrested by his men during a pursuit operation on Jan. 3 in the hinterlands of Sitio Manara in Barangay Puey, two days after he committed the crime.

Initial investigation of the Sagay police showed that the victim, who died of strangulation, was believed to have also been molested.

Sy said that they have a video recording of the suspect confessing his crime, although Granciso denied it later in an interview with a radio reporter.

The case is considered “solved,” following the arrest and filing of charges against the suspect, he added. – GB
