The Social Security System and Philippine Ports Authority launched the SSS Offsite eCenter (OEC) at the Port of Banago in Bacolod City Aug. 27 in a bid to bring digital services closer to the public.
“This is what service innovation should be about, making government services more accessible, more convenient, and more responsive to the realities of the people we serve,” Atty. Alberto Montalbo, senior vice president for the SSS Visayas Operations Group, said at the launching of the OEC at the passenger lounge of the Port of Banago building.
Montalbo added that accessibility is one important part of the SSS service strategy, noting that “distance, travel time, and work demands can sometimes make it difficult for members to access government services.”
But while the SSS has been pushing for digital transformation and for all transactions to be made available online, there is still a need for members to be guided on how to navigate these services since not all are internet savvy, hence the OECs, or service facilities established through partnerships with government agencies, local government units, educational institutions, malls, or private organizations.
Through this OEC, which is the 23rd for the SSS Bacolod Branch, and the 217th for the Visayas West 1 Division, port employees and passengers can conveniently access online services, such as the My.SSS registration, PRN generation, record verification, applications, and other digital transactions with the assistance of trained personnel while waiting for their trips, Josefa Pineda, regional communications officer of SSS Visayas West 1 Division, said.
To ensure quality service, the PPA Port Management Office Negros Occidental – the host institution for the newest OEC – designates an e-Expert, who possesses basic technological skills and is trained to navigate the SSS website, data privacy, and mobile app, and is expected to assist clients with professionalism, integrity, confidentiality, and respect for data privacy, Pineda added.
PPA PMO Negros Occidental division manager Arlyn Caraig said this offsite hub will allow SSS members to access online services quickly and safely. “Long lines and traveling far are things of the past. This milestone proves what can be achieved when public agencies and local communities work hand in hand for the people.”
SSS Bacolod branch head Emelia Solinap, meanwhile, assured the PPA of continued support. “We’re one call away if you need assistance” in operating the OEC.
After the OEC launching, SSS personnel also answered the queries of port employees and assisted them in availing of services. | CGC
