About 250 students started working in the different offices of the Dumaguete City government, as approved by Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo, under the 20-day annual Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) for this year.

City Public Employment Service Office manager Maria Socorro Mira said in a city press release July 1 that the senior high school and college students will receive a compensation of more than P10,000 for complete attendance.

Atty. Felipe Claudio Remollo, chief political affairs officer of House Speaker Martin Romualdez, told the assembled students how important their role as youth is in nation building during the opening ceremony June 28.

The son of the mayor exhorted the students to relish the experience of working in government, learning new skills and earning so they can pay for their tuition and other school fees once classes open.

The SPES program, expanded to include more students, is a priority of Mayor Remollo that provides the recipients with valuable employment experience during their summer break, and helps the youth acquire new knowledge and skills to empower them, the city said.

Present at the opening ceremony were senior labor and employment officer Anita Melicor, local youth development officer Tigie James Tanilon, and community affairs officer Renz Macion. ||
