The Sangguniang Panlungsod is urging stricter security measures at the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) and other public spaces, following a fatal shooting incident at the session hall in Ibajay, Aklan last week.

The incident in Ibajay town involved Vice Mayor Julio Estolloso, who was shot dead by Councilor Mihrel Senatin Aug. 8, police reports had said.

“(The) recent shooting incident at the session hall in Ibajay, Aklan, has heightened concerns over the security of government centers and public spaces nationwide,” said Councilor Em Ang, who authored the resolution approved by the SP during its session Aug. 14.

“It is imperative to proactively strengthen security measures at the BCGC and other city government facilities to prevent similar incidents. Peace and security are essential for the effective delivery of government services and the safety of all city residents and employees,” Ang stressed.

These security measures include the installation of additional security cameras and metal detectors at all entrances; deployment of additional security personnel in and around government facilities; conduct of regular security audits and drills to ensure preparedness; and clear protocols for emergency response and evacuation, she added.

It is also important to encourage cooperation among local law enforcement agencies, private security providers, and the community, to promote a culture of safety and vigilance, the SP said, adding that copies of the resolution will be furnished the Office of the City Mayor, Bacolod City Police Office, the Public Order and Safety Office, and other relevant authorities for immediate action and appropriate measures. | CGC
