The Bacolod City Council has sought the intercession of Lone District Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez on the mounting complaints from travelers against the exorbitant increase of overnight parking fees at the Bacolod-Silay Airport.
From the previous P200, the fee has gone up to P600.
The per hour parking fee also increased from P8 to P25, starting January this year.
The call for the lawmaker to intervene is stated in a resolution authored by Councilor Homer Bais earlier approved by the City Council.
A dialogue to be attended by members of the City Council, representatives of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), and other concerned government agencies was also suggested.
Bais noted that there is no improvement at the open air parking area of the Bacolod-Silay Airport.
“Why charge that much for an overnight parking?” he asked.
Bais said that a shopping mall in Bacolod charges a parking fee of only P20 the whole day inside a building equipped with security guards and closed circuit television cameras.
In an interview, Engr. John William Fuerte, Bacolod-Silay Airport manager, said the increase in airport parking fees was approved on April 21, 2025 for all CAAP-operated airports nationwide. | GB
