The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod is pushing for the conduct of a comprehensive inventory, mapping, and valuation of all city government assets to ensure proper management and to optimize their use.

“The absence of a current and unified inventory creates risks of unaccounted properties, encroachment, illegal occupation, and foregone revenues,” the SP said, adding this could hamper effective planning and transparent governance.

The inventory and valuation request to the General Services Office, through the Office of Mayor Greg Gasataya, was made via a resolution authored by councilors Caesar Distrito, Dindo Ramos, and Celia Matea Flor, and approved by the SP Sept. 16, adding that the comprehensive and consolidated inventory, mapping, and valuation shall include all city government-owned lands, buildings, equipment, vehicles, and other fixed or movable assets.

Results of the consolidated report and valuation should be submitted to the SP, it added.

“(There is need) to ensure their proper management, prevent loss or misuse, and identify idle or underutilized properties that may be developed for public benefit or revenue generation,” the councilors said.

The SP also stressed the urgent need to protect and optimize the use of city’s assets, strengthen fiscal responsibility, align asset management with the principles of transparency and good governance, and the effective management and safeguarding of its properties and resources. | CGC
