The Sangguniang Panlungsod has asked the Negros Electric and Power Corporation (NEPC) for its proposed action plan on the frequent and unscheduled power outages in Bacolod City.
The management of NEPC should furnished members of the SP its action plan “on how to address the causes of the frequent power interruption – scheduled or unscheduled – and to provide written report on what are the course of action taken to mitigate or rectify” this “before they take over the management (of Ceneco) this August,” Councilor Claudio Jesus “Kalaw” Puentevella, chairperson of the SP Committee on Energy and Public Utilities, said in his resolution approved July 24.
Puentevella noted that, in an interview, Central Negros Electric Cooperative acting general manager. Atty. Arnel Lapore, had said that Ceneco’s “problems can be solved through the joint venture agreement with NEPC, which will invest P2.1 billion in infrastructure and facilities once they take over,” hence the resolution.
“Bacolod resident-consumers of Ceneco had experienced numerous instances of power interruption for the past weeks. Most (of these) interruptions were unscheduled, which cause inconvenience… (and) economic disruption, which can affect business productivity in the City,” the resolution added. | CGC
