The high trust ratings of House Speaker Martin Romualdez can only mean that the House of Representatives is right on track in fulfilling its duties and mandate to serve the Filipino people.
Ako Bicol Rep. Elizaldy Co, chairperson of the House Committee on Appropriations, said that, slowly but surely, the trust ratings of Romualdez continue to climb because of the unrelenting attitude of the Speaker when it comes to legislative work.
“I believe if the Filipino people continue to put their trust in Speaker Romualdez’s leadership, then the House must be doing something right,” Co, also the president of the Partylist Coalition Foundation Inc., said.
“And it is my humble assertion that legislative work under Speaker Romualdez complements the efforts of the administration of President Bongbong Marcos Jr. Government programs are made possible through a competent, streamlined but exhaustive legislation process put in place by the Speaker,” he added.
The recent Octa Research survey indicates an increase in Romualdez’s trust ratings, from 54 percent in July this year to 60 percent in Oct. 4. This represents an increase of six percent from the last survey in July, and a 22 percent increment from the 2022 figures pegged at 38 percent, the House said in a statement.
Co said the more than 300-member House of Representatives, under the leadership of Romualdez, had just passed the P5.768-trillion national budget for 2024, and is still buckling down to work on the priority bills of the Marcos administration.
“We have just passed the national budget that is envisioned to implement the goals and aspirations of President Marcos for the people next year. And the leadership of Speaker Romualdez made this possible. This is the reason he has a high trust rating, because we as lawmakers emulate his hard work,” the partylist solon said.
In fact, Co said Romualdez gave marching orders to standing committees in the House to continue deliberations on important pieces of legislation, even during the month-long break.
This is to assure the passage of other pending priority bills targeted for approval by the President and the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council by end-December 2023.
“Speaker Romualdez treats his high trust ratings as an inspiration to do more and achieve more, and not as a reason to be complacent. And, so far, we are right on track,” Co said.||
