Fifth District representative Maria Lourdes Arroyo and three mayors of Negros Occidental said they support presidential aspirant Bongbong Marcos and his running mate, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.
Arroyo belongs to the Lakas Party, headed by her sister-in-law, former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, adding that she will support those chosen by her national party and will campaign for them.
Marcos and Duterte-Carpio are expected to visit Negros Occidental in January, she said.
Moises Padilla Mayor Ella Garcia Yulo, La Castellana Mayor Rhumyla Mangilimutan, and Himamaylan City Mayor Raymund Tongson also expressed their support to the BBM-Sara tandem.
Mangilimutan said the Negros mayors who support the BBM-Sara tandem will meet Dec. 11 to discuss plans for the coming campaign period to drum up support.
Isabela Mayor Irene Montilla, Hinigaran Mayor Nadie Arceo, and Binalbagan Mayor Alejandro Mirasol, meanwhile, are still waiting for the decision of their national parties on who to support in the May 2022 elections.
The officials were in Isabela Dec. 10 to witness the turnover of Arroyo’s gift of e-trikes to recipients in various barangays.
She said mobility is important, and the multipurpose e-trike can be used to transport light materials. — MML
