Troops of the Philippine Army’s 79th Infantry Battalion discovered firearms, ammunition and explosive believed to have been buried by New People’s Army rebels in Sitio Mocabog, Barangay Washington, Escalante City, Negros Occidental.

In a statement on Tuesday (March 12), Lt. Col. Arnel Calaoagan, 79IB commander, said that the discovery of buried war materials was a result of the information relayed to them by residents in the area.

Found were a caliber .38 revolver, a homemade 12-gauge with four ammunition, a 400mm ammunition for M203 grenade launcher, about 100 more rounds of ammunition, a KMP red flag, and a camouflage uniform,

Calaoagan said that the arms cache was believed to have been buried by remnants of the dismantled Northern Negros Front.

Last month, 20 firearms were also recovered by the 79IB in a series of encounters with rebel remnants in Barangay Pinapugasan, Escalante City that left three suspected rebels dead and slightly injured four soldiers. | GB
