Soldier injured in clash with suspected rebels

An Army soldier was injured in an encounter Wednesday, Nov. 4,  with suspected New People’s Army rebels in Sitio Inangaw, Barangay Sandayao, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental.

Troopers of the 62nd Infantry Battalion were on combat operations when they encountered a band of  15 NPA rebels.

A 15-minute running gunbattle ensued, Maj. Cenon Pancito, 3rd Infantry Division spokesperson, said.

As of press time, Pancito said, they have yet to get reports from operatives if the fleeing rebels suffered casualties.

Pursuit operations are still ongoing, Pancito said.

The injured soldier, who is recuperating in a hospital, is now in stable condition, he added. – GPB
