Policemen seized P100,000 worth of suspected smuggled cigarettes in a checkpoint at Barangay 1 Poblacion, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental Monday night.

The confiscation took place after the police flagged down a black Mazda pick-up truck, wherein the driver, a 45-year-old businessman, failed to present a driver’s license.

While conducting a plain view search, the police also discovered that the vehicle was loaded with four boxes of New Berlin brand cigarettes without the required supporting documents.

The driver, with the suspected smuggled cigarettes, is now in the custody of San Carlos City Police Station. | GB
