SM City Bacolod joined all SM Supermalls nationwide in a synchronized flag-raising ceremony morning of May 28, in commemoration of National Flag Day, honoring the historic first unfurling of the Philippine Flag on May 28, 1898, in Alapan, Kawit, Cavite.
Led by mall manager Julia Javellana, mall employees and the SM security force gathered – joined by community partners Boy Scouts of the Philippines, the Philippine Coast Guard, and students from NU Bacolod – to hold the ceremony that was a unified tribute to the national symbol.
Adding to the solemnity of the event was the Coro Bacoleño, or the Bacolod City Chorale, who performed a stirring rendition of the National Anthem. Dressed in their Filipiniana, the choir’s performance echoed the pride and dignity of the Filipino spirit.

“This act of pausing to honor our Flag is a meaningful reminder of our shared history and national identity,” Javellana said in a statement. “It’s a simple yet powerful gesture that brings us together as Filipinos.”
SM Supermalls’ observance of National Flag Day aligns with the national call to display and respect the Philippine Flag from May 28 to June 12, in accordance with the Salute to a Clean Flag campaign. This initiative encourages proper flag etiquette and aims to rekindle patriotic awareness among citizens.
As the nation counts down to the 127th Independence Day, SM’s nationwide ceremonies serve as a collective expression of gratitude, unity, and enduring national pride. ||
