Guillermo died Nov. 5 in Barangay Sandayao, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental, following an encounter with 15 suspected New People’s Army rebels, while Negros Occidental marked the Cinco de Noviembre celebrations.

“Though we grieve his passing, we also proud in many ways because he did so under heroic circumstances that will long be remembered by every Guihulnganons,” Reyes, who chairs the City Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict, said, in a statement.

“The Guihulngan City ELCAC lives on with your inspiration,” he added.

Guillermo was also given military honors by the Army’s 3rd Infantry Division, upon his return to his hometown in Mambusao, Capiz, last week, where he was buried. – GPB
