The Coast Guard Station Siquijor recently conducted the Kadiwa ng Bagong Bayaning Mangingisda (KBBM) within the municipal waters off Barangay Poblacion in Siquijor, Siquijor.
The initiative aimed to provide humanitarian assistance to fishermen while strengthening collaboration with maritime stakeholders and promoting the welfare of the fishing community.
This activity of Coast Guard Station Siquijor, under the leadership of Lt. Junior Grade Kristomar Miscala, was through Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Poblacion, together with the MEPU Siquijor and SOU Siquijor.
The team distributed relief packs containing essential food items to fishermen actively engaged in their livelihood, ensuring that the assistance was delivered in an orderly manner without interrupting their fishing operations.
In addition to the relief distribution, Coast Guard personnel conducted maritime safety discussions, reminding fishermen of the importance of complying with existing maritime laws and regulations, carrying the necessary safety equipment while at sea, and remaining vigilant against potential maritime hazards.
“This meaningful outreach reflects the Philippine Coast Guard’s unwavering commitment to responsive public service, community engagement, and the protection of lives and livelihoods in coastal communities,” it said in a press release July 28.
Through initiatives such as the Kadiwa ng Bagong Bayaning Mangingisda, the Coast Guard continues to strengthen its partnership with the local fishing sector while fostering a safer, more resilient, and more informed maritime community, it added. ||
