Sipalaynons in the process of recovery

More than a month since the devastation of Typhoon Odette, Sipalaynons are still in the process of recovery, renovating and rebuilding their houses, and regaining hope in their hearts.

The city government also continues its relief operations even on weekends, and is grateful for the outpouring of support to Sipalaynons badly-affected when Odette slammed into Negros Occidental Dec. 16 and 17.

The local government assisted the Negrense Volunteers for Change in the distribution of house construction materials in Barangay Nauhang Jan. 20.

The materials will be used to repair 49 damaged houses in puroks Sa-ang, Sigay, Bagongon, Baguisan, Tuway, Saka-saka, and Bucana in the barangay.

The Negrense Volunteers for Change is a locally-funded non-governmental organization from Bacolod City, and has programs on nutrition, livelihood, education, and relief operations.

The group visited Sipalay regarding their project centered on rebuilding and rehabilitating houses, a press release from the city said.

The distribution was attended by NVC field officers Jessie Lachica and Jun Rey Reyes and volunteer Karl Ruiz Reyes, Sipalay information officer Engr. Efren James Lim, Social Welfare officer Rhea Sol Moreño, and barangay officials of Nauhang, headed by Brgy. Captain Diego Hulguin.

The city, through Mayor Maria Gina Lizares, also received goods from the Semirara Mining and Power Corporation-Caluya in Antique, through Dr. Gilda Alvarez.

The donation included construction materials, such as plywood, GI corrugated and plain sheets, lumber, hollow blocks, and umbrella and concrete nails.

The materials will be utilized for the construction and rehabilitation of the houses of 21 identified recipients from barangays 2, 4, Cabadiangan, Mambaroto, Manlucahoc, Nabulao, Gil Montilla, and San Jose.

The city distributed 90 packs of relief goods to residents of sitios Odol Pasil and Ondol Bukid of Brgy. Cayhagan recently.

The operation was joined by the University of Saint La Salle-Bacolod students from the Master of Science in Guidance and Counseling Batch 3. They distributed 50 packs of relief goods, as well as slippers, used clothes, sanitary pads, stuffed toys, and towels.

The LGU, meanwhile, met with its 17 barangay captains on updates regarding the Alert Level 3 status of the city, the restrictions and allowed activities. They also discussed and planned out initiatives on how the barangays could help in increasing the number of vaccinated Sipalaynons.

Present during the meeting along with the Association of Barangay Captains were executive assistant to the mayor, Engr. Praem Mediodia, Lim, ABC president Rome Vargas, and Mary Cyvelle Ann Yap and Josephine Dingcong from the City Health Office.

In Kabankalan, Senator Francis Tolentino donated 200 bags of rice and 1,700 GI sheets to victims of Odette.

Mayor Pedro Zayco Jr., Vice Mayor Raul Rivera, and members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod received the donation and distributed this to the different barangays.

Residents of Sitio Napudyot in Brgy. Orong each received five GI sheets, 10 kilos of rice and food packs, a blanket from the Department of Social Welfare and Development, and sakoline./NND
