The Sipalay local government received a check for P10 million from the Department of Labor and Employment Region 6 for its Sipalay Integrated Kabuhayan Agri-Ecotourism Projects (SIKAP).

The SIKAP initiative is a comprehensive livelihood development program designed to enhance the agricultural and eco-tourism potential of Sipalay, by supporting grassroots organizations and community-based associations, the city said.

It covers various livelihood activities, including agri-enterprise, sustainable farming, food processing, and eco-tourism services that aim to improve local employment and environmental stewardship.

Twelve associations in Sipalay are the identified beneficiaries of SIKAP, selected based on their organizational readiness, relevance of proposed livelihood activities, and alignment with the city’s agri-ecotourism development strategy.

The financial grant will be used to procure equipment, tools, raw materials, and provide capability-building support.

During the ceremonial turnover of the check last week, Mayor Maria Gina Lizares emphasized the importance of accountability and long-term vision in managing the financial assistance received.

She urged officers and members of the 12 associations “to put the grant to good and productive use, ensuring that every peso contributes to the sustainable growth of their respective associations.”

The DOLE, through its Integrated Livelihood Program, continues its commitment of providing sustainable livelihood opportunities and supporting the socio-economic recovery of communities, particularly in rural and tourism-oriented areas. ||
