Shootings kill 2 women

Two women were killed in separate shooting incidents in Negros Occidental in the past week.

In Victorias City, a 24-year-old woman died after she was shot by an unidentified assailant on Friday night, Jan. 22 at Lopez Subdivision in Barangay 3.

The victim, identified by the police as Maribeth Solatorio, was declared dead on arrival at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City.

Investigation of the Victorias City Police Station showed that the victim was awakened by the father of her live-in partner, Francisco Solleza, who told her that somebody was looking for her.

When she went out, Solatorio was shot by the gunman, who fled after hitting her in the stomach.

The police recovered a fired cartridge of caliber .45 pistol at the crime scene.

As of press time, investigators are still establishing the motive of the shooting incident.

In Pontevedra town, a 43-year-old woman died on the spot while her two companions were injured when they were shot on Jan. 21 in Sitio Pantao, Barangay Pandan.

PLt. Donny Magbanua, deputy police chief of Pontevedra, identified the fatalilty as Ana Oñas while the injured as Gerogelyn Linigao and Jesselino Duaban, all residents of the place.

Magbanua said that the victims were on their way home Thursday night, Jan. 21, when they were waylaid and shot by Pedro Oñas, 41, who is a relative and neighbor of the fatality.

Oñas succumbed to gunshot wounds in her abdomen and right leg while Lenigao and Duaban suffered injuries on various parts of the body.

Lenigao and Duaban were brought to the CLMMRH in Bacolod City while Oñas was declared dead on arrival at the Don Salvador Benedicto Memorial District Hospital in La Carlota City.

Policemen who responded to the shooting incident arrested Nelson Espadera while Pedro Oñas remained at-large as of press time.

They recovered from the scene of incident two fired cartridges of caliber. 45 pistol.

Magbanua said their initial investigation showed that the shooting incident was triggered by personal grudge and land dispute. – GB
