In support of the weeklong Brigada Eskwela 2025, Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo led the turnover of about 100 armchairs recycled from plastic wastes for learners of Camanjac National High School (CNHS) recently.

CNHS principal Orlando Omlang, speaking on behalf of the students and faculty, expressed gratitude to Remollo for the grant of plastic armchairs that can be used by their students so they can comfortably participate in classroom and extra-curricular activities.

Eco-Park Solid Waste Processing Facility manager, Engr. Leticia Duran, said the armchairs were produced by converting plastic wastes through the recycling equipment being operated at the Dumaguete City Central Materials Recovery Facility (MRF).

Remollo has made it a priority to provide the plastic chairs produced by the Central MRF to the public schools and government offices, the city said June 17, adding that several schools have also received plastic armchairs previously.

CNHS was also a recipient of the new three-storey school building with six classrooms inaugurated by Remollo and Deped officials last summer to help address the shortage of rooms of the school.

Duran also disclosed that 50 plastic chairs were given to the City Nutrition Office and another 50 to the City Health Office, for the daily use of both employees and clients.

The plastic recycling equipment was acquired by Dumaguete City through the DENR upon the request of Remollo to further help in efforts to manage the city’s solid wastes by recycling the plastics to chairs, especially that the old dumpsite was already closed on March 30, 2021.

Another set of equipment in the Central MRF is used for the pyrolysis gasification process that is capable of converting garbage to construction materials, such as hollow blocks and paver stones, to be used in the various infrastructure projects of the city. ||
