San Carlos City in Negros Occidental is demonstrating how proper planning, innovation and environmental stewardship can transform waste management into a model of sustainable action through the responsible operation of its sanitary landfill.
Located in Sitio Mabuni, Barangay Guadalupe, the sanitary landfill serves as a vital component of the city’s eco-center and is designed and operated in accordance with the implementing rules and regulations of Republic Act 9003, or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act.
The facility highlights the importance of proper waste management beyond the collection and disposal of garbage, promoting instead a more systematic and environmentally responsible approach to resource management.
With proper planning, strong local governance and a commitment to environmental protection, the San Carlos City experience shows that a sanitary landfill can serve as more than just a disposal site.
