Some 60 bus and boat porters and nine members of the Indigenous People (IP) community in Barangay Bagonbon, San Carlos City received grant from the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
The assistance, released under the agency’s Sustainable Livelihood Program, were distributed on Dec. 17 in rites held at the Senior Citizens Building.
Tranquilino Agriam, implementing project development officer of DSWD, said each eligible individual whose livelihood was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic received P10,000 as start-up capital for business.
Agriam said that before the cash distribution, beneficiaries were asked to pass utilization plans for their desired business.
Receipts of the purchases will be collected after seven to10 days to ensure that items listed on the plan for their respective enterprises were bought, he added.
The beneficiaries will also be monitored on a monthly basis.
“As beneficiaries, part of their responsibilities is to open bank accounts so that portion of their profits will be saved,” Agriam said.
Staff of San Carlos City Social Welfare and Development Office headed by Cynthia Mirande facilitated the distribution of the grant. – NWI
