San Carlos observes National Heroes Day

The city government of San Carlos, led by Mayor Renato Gustilo, commemorated the National Heroes Day Aug. 25, with the offering of flowers and a program at Rizal Square, public plaza.

Gustilo was joined by councilors Victoriana Cabili, Armando Laguda Jr., Atty. Joseph Mark Antonio, and Jeffrey Hidalgo, department and division heads of LGU-San Carlos, Department of Education officials, personnel from the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, and Philippine Coast Guard, Boy and Girl Scouts of the Philippines, war veterans of San Carlos, and representatives from local public secondary schools, in offering flowers to the Unknown Soldier’s statue.

Cabili said the National Heroes Day is for remembering both the renowned and the unsung heroes, who sacrificed for the nation’s freedom.

She added that this heroism goes beyond the battlefield, as ordinary citizens who live with integrity, honesty, commitment, and purpose also embody the spirit of a hero, and help shape the country’s progress, the city said.

National Heroes Day, or Araw ng mga Bayani, is celebrated annually per Republic Act 9492, which declared the last Monday of August a national holiday honoring all known and unknown heroes of the Philippines.

The DepEd San Carlos City Division, thru the local public secondary schools, facilitated the event which concluded with a community dance presentation by students of Julio Ledesma National High School. ||
