San Carlos awards Nataban, Rizal P500K as barangay SGLG winners

Barangays Nataban and Rizal in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental won the Seal of Good Local Governance for Barangay (SGLGB), and the awarding ceremony was held at the City Auditorium Dec. 28.

Of the 18 barangays of San Carlos, Nataban and Rizal excelled in complying with the governance areas as set by the city, including financial, disaster, safety, peace and order, social, business, and the environment.

They each received P500,000 in SGLGB incentive fund from the city government.

Barangays Buluangan, Codcod, and II were finalists and received P200,000 in SGLGB incentive fund each; while barangays of 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, Quezon, Prosperidad, Bagonbon, Punao, Palampas, Guadalupe, San Juan, and Ermita each won P100,000 in SGLG incentive fund for their participation.

San Carlos Mayor Renato Gustilo said that the City received its 7th consecutive SGLG award from the Department of the Interior and Local Government recently, so under his leadership, he wants the barangays to follow what the city has done.

He said he will continue the SGLGB program to institutionalize it and ensure that every barangay gives better service to the people. He said he is hopeful that next year, more barangays will pass the standard.

Negros Occidental 1st District Rep. Gerardo Valmayor Jr. also encouraged barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials to exert more effort and improve the kind of services they provide to their constituents.

He added in a city press release Dec. 29 that the people chose them because they trust their capabilities and leadership.

Vice Mayor Christopher Paul Carmona and Liga ng mga Barangay president Alfredo Martin Cui also emphasized that the city’s status became possible because of everyone’s cooperation.
