Several associations in the cities of Sagay and Sipalay, Negros Occidental, received a total of P4.8 million in livelihood grants, through the Sustainable Livelihood Program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development recently.
The livelihood grant is under the DSWD-PAyapa at MAsaganang PamayaNAn (PAMANA) program, which provides socio-economic projects and other interventions to geographically-isolated and disadvantaged areas, as well as conflict-affected and vulnerable communities, the department said.
Each of the five associations in Sagay received P300,000 in assistance, including the Fabricanians Retailers’ Association, for their rice and agricultural supplies retailing; Lopez Jaena Livelihood Association, for a community store; the Women into Progressive Life, for office supplies and a center; Brgy. Paraiso Women Vendors Association, for a community store and party rentals; and the Brgy. Puey Small Farmers Association, also for their rice and agricultural supplies retailing project for PAMANA Cycle 3.

The distribution of the checks was held at the Sagay City Social Welfare and Development Office, and attended by Mayor Narciso Javelosa Jr., OIC-City Social Welfare and Development officer/SLP focal Nehemiah Harold Mission, and DSWD SLP-Negros Occidental project development officers II Jenifer Soliva, Jeriff Fara-on, and Felizardo Sapanza III, a press release from the department said Jan. 23.
Eight SLP associations in Sipalay also received similar assistance, all worth P3,370,000.
The PAMANA SLPA of the Cabadiangan United Farmers Association in Brgy. Cabadiangan received P300,000 for their rice and feeds supplies retailing project, while the Manlucahoc Farm Workers Association in Brgy. Manlucahoc got P300,000 for an agrivet supplies retailing project.
Under the SLP Regular GAA fund, the Tuburan Livelihood Association in Brgy. Cayhagan received P450,000 for fish vending and fishing supplies project; Cayhagan Entrepreneurs Association, P450,000 also for fish vending and dried fish processing project; the Mambaroto Entrepreneurs Association, P270,000 for purified water retailing and water containers retailing with vendo machine rental project;
The Kabakod Livelihood Association (PWD sector), P540,000; Maricalum Masanag Livelihood Association, P480,000; and Team Solo Cartagena Association (for solo parent sector), P580,000, all for community store project.
Sipalay Mayor Maria Gina Lizares graced the distribution ceremony, along with City Social Welfare and Development officer Ivy Lynn Gallenero, executive assistant Rita Santes, SLP focal Rhea Sol Moreño, Madelyn Trinidad, and DSWD SLP Negros Occidental project development officers II Queeny Vingno, Daisy Navarro, and Jennifer Sapanza. ||
